About Me - Mr. Johnson
Just a brief background, of myself, for those of you who will have students in my program for the first time. I have
worked for Architectural and Engineering firms in the Grand Rapids area for many years prior to my teaching career. I have an Associates Degree in Architecture, a Bachelor's Degree in Career Technical Education, a Masters of CTE, with a computer science focus, and I am CTE certified for Drafting. All of my education is from Ferris State University.
With that I have many contacts in the business profession but I am always looking for more. If you work for or have some connection to a company that utilizes drafting, designs, or computer program usage, I would like to know it and possibly set up a field trip or guest speaker to come into the classes. This is also a plus in helping students find internships and job shadowing opportunities.
I also work hard at providing the students with opportunities to compete in the drafting and engineering fields. I have taken teams of students to Ferris State University to compete in a High School Spaghetti Bridge building competition. I also enter student’s work in the MITES competition each year and look forward to doing it again this year, as well as other drafting competitions. In the past, students have had the opportunity to go to Ferris for their annual CAD and Manufacturing summer camp. I am constantly on the lookout for other types of competitions and programs that students can participate in because it helps them to strive to do their best.
My philosophy is simple, I believe the students are in High School now and nearly adults having to make
decisions and compete for a future. I try to give them the tools to be confident, respectful, responsible and resourceful.
Personally I have been married to my wife Barb since 1991. We have three children (Tyler 1996, Kalynn 1998, & Sydni 2001). All go to Saranac Public School, yes I have been driving here to Kenowa Hills since 1999 from Saranac. Update; Tyler is now in the Navy - He is currently stationed in Hawaii..
